Reconnaissance Level Investigation of Salt-Water Intrusion on Kuttu Island, Satawan Atoll, Truk State

No abstract was published. A summary of the Introduction follows.

Saltwater intrusions into portions of Kuttu Island, Satawan Atoll, were investigated. Intrusions cause a reduction in staple crop productivity and an increase in salinity in household wells. Factors contributing to this problem included drought conditions prevailing over the western Pacific region, seasonal changes in sea level, and subsurface conditions of relatively higher permeability, allowing the movement of brackish groundwater. Conclusions and recommendations are presented and discussed in this report.
